Hetzner Cloud is often the indie default for EU price/performance: shared Regular Performance from €6.49/mo excl. VAT, generous EU inclusive traffic, and hourly billing with a monthly cap. Contabo still wins raw RAM stickers; DigitalOcean still wins docs/UX. This page is a dated HostStack procurement snapshot — not a forever #1.

• Teams OK self-managing Linux on Console/API (Windows is not officially supported).

Who should look elsewhere

Entry Regular Performance — EU-oriented CPX (excl. VAT)

Availability caveat: Create buttons on many CPX cards returned “This product is currently unavailable. Please check back later.” when fetched without an account. Public price cards are still published; actual create capacity may be constrained — verify live in Hetzner Console. Do not treat published stickers as guaranteed stock.

EU inclusive traffic on these cards is commonly 20 TB outbound. Singapore (SIN1) prices and inclusive TB differ by SKU (examples seen on the same page: CPX02 SIN €7.99/mo with 0.5 TB; higher CPX SIN cards show higher €/mo and 1–5 TB inclusive). Always re-check the location toggle on the official card.

US-named Regular Performance cards (same page; separate labels)

Do not mix these into the EU entry table without labels — different SKUs and prices.

US inclusive traffic is plan-dependent (docs/marketing: often from ~1 TB upward on US CPX). Same availability caveat as EU cards.

Billing shape

1. Hourly + monthly cap — Bill never exceeds the monthly price cap. Delete before month-end → hourly only (hours rounded up). Servers bill until you delete them (powered-off still bills).
2. Primary IPv4 — Extra €0.50/mo excl. VAT; Primary IPv6 is free. Cloud server prices on cards do not include public IPs as a bundled free forever assumption — treat IPv4 as an add-on line.
3. VAT / locale — Public marketing cards show excl. VAT. Cart total for your account locale = TBD without completing signup.
4. Legacy / rescale — Docs describe actions (rescale, restore deleted, currency-changing project transfer) that can move a server onto current pricing after the June 2026 adjustment. Rebuild / same-currency project transfer do not, per FAQ. Cite docs; do not invent account-specific advice.
5. Backups / Snapshots — Backups marketed as ~20% of server monthly; Snapshots billed per GB — budget separately (billing FAQ).

Important: Some marketing HTML price widgets render the €1.00 / €7.40 figures with a “per hour” accessibility string. That conflicts with docs and traffic pages, which describe overage as per TB. HostStack cites €/TB from docs.hetzner.com + Robot traffic / European-cloud — not “€1.00 per hour” for traffic.

Hetzner marketing also cites independent sparecores.com comparisons on Cloud pages; treat those as Hetzner’s marketing citation only, not HostStack benchmarks.

Caveats

1. Eligibility / account — Account verification and payment rules apply. CN-operator friction varies — factual only; no KYC/payment circumvention advice.
2. Availability message — Public create path may show products unavailable even while price cards remain listed; confirm in Console.
3. Windows — Official FAQ: Hetzner focuses on Linux; Windows install is DIY and unsupported.
4. VAT — Stickers on this page are excl. VAT as on public cards.
5. SLA — Hetzner markets a 99.9% uptime SLA with credits (Cloud overview). Quote as a marketing claim with link, not independent HostStack verification.
6. Cost-Optimized unavailable — Do not steer readers into that family while the hub badge says not available.

Both: hourly rate with a monthly cap. Delete early and you pay hourly (rounded up); a full month never exceeds the listed monthly price.

Is Hetzner always cheaper than Contabo?
No. Contabo often wins raw RAM/disk stickers (incl. VAT framing on en-us). Hetzner often wins EU shared performance + inclusive TB + hourly flexibility. Compare like-for-like specs, currency, VAT, and traffic model.

Do I need IPv4?
Only if your stack needs it. Primary IPv4 is €0.50/mo excl. VAT; IPv6 is free per servers overview.

Windows?
Not officially supported. Stick to listed Linux images unless you accept DIY risk.
